ANIMAL SCIENCE DEPARTMENT

Vision of the Department

It is to produce technicians with competences to meet the current and future needs of the livestock sector. Many farmers especially in the rural areas need extension services in order to improve the way they farm to become progressive farmers and get maximum profits from their livestock enterprises.

The livestock sector is faced by a number of limitations in areas of animal health, housing, breeding, nutrition, general management practices and marketing. In addition, many farmers have not thought about processing as a means of getting more profits from their livestock enterprises. In view of this scenario, the programs have been designed to train competent frontline extension staff with the required knowledge, skills and right attitude to address all the above limitations. The graduates are trained to be creative, have independent thinking and self-confidence. The graduates can also advise farmers on food security.
